Stereophonics added Isle of Wight festival lineup
20th December 2003 - 13:56
Rock act Stereophonics have been added to the headline acts of next summer’s Isle Of Wight Festival, it was announced today.
The three-day event takes place in June and David Bowie is already among the names who will play the revived event.
Band frontman Kelly Jones and bass player Richard Jones announced the band’s involvement this morning on Virgin Radio which is broadcasting the event.
It will be Stereophonics first UK festival appearance for two years.
Kelly said: “To do a gig at the Isle of Wight is pretty special – I know (Paul) Weller did it last year and he said it was a good craic, it will be a good day.”
Virgin DJ Pete Mitchell said: “Stereophonics are a great live band and have built up a strong set of songs. They will give the opening night a great finish.
The band sacked their drummer Stuart Cable earlier this year.
Speaking about his departure Kelly said: “It’s not a harsh decision or some flippant thing we decided to do one day, it was long time coming.
“There is nobody more I would have loved to have seen behind me than Stuart, but it didn’t work out that way.”
