Kylie for Glasto 2007?

20th May 2005 - 05:00

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has been speaking to Xfm about Kylie’s tragically cancelled headline appearance, and the possibility the star could return to the festival in the future.

Following yesterday’s reports that Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has pulled out of her Showgirls Tour dates and her headlining Glastonbury Festival date on Sunday June 26, festival organiser Emily Eavis has been talking about receiving the news and wishing her a quick recovery,

“We had a couple of calls and were told that very sadly she is obviously unable to perform and has breast cancer which is really, really sad,” Emily explained, “We’re currently just trying to put out the message to wish her well and hope that she gets operated on quickly and nips it in the bud, that’s the main thing at the moment.”

Emily went on to explain that her and her Dad – Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis – went to go and check Kylie out and were really looking forward to her headlining performance, but hinted that she may well play the festival in the future.

“My Dad and I went to go and see her last week at Earls
Court and it really was brilliant,” she continued, “It was amazing, completely an amazing show. And we thought ‘God this is gonna be great’. It would have been something that we’ve never done before, and it would’ve been a great way to end the weekend. We’re sadly gonna have to find someone else to do the Sunday night. But it’s so sad, sad for her. I hope she’s alright.”

“We’re just sending her best wishes and hopefully, maybe in the future she will return.”

As for the festival itself, all seems to be progressing well at Worthy Farm in Pilton, where the event will take place, but no replacement has for Kylie been decided.

“We’ll find someone,” Eavis explained, “There’re people and there’re bands around y’know? We will fill the gap with something that won’t be the same, but hopefully will be fun.

“Apart from this it’s been all systems go. The fence is going up – it’s probably about halfway up now – and last night they were testing fireworks behind the Pyramid Stage, and it’s all got that buzz about it. Apart from today, which has kind of taken the wind out of everybody, generally the build up’s been going really well.”
