Sir Bob Geldof confirms Live Aid 2 gig

Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure have confirmed he’s planning a music spectacular 20 years after Live Aid.

He’s signing up the biggest names in pop to perform on July 2 for the Make Poverty History campaign.

Midge Ure told reporters on Thursday: “We’ll have all the big names we can find.”

“It’s big. And it’s as petrifying as the build-up to Live Aid, if not more so.”

Sir Bob Geldof said: “What started 20 years ago is coming to a political point in a few weeks,”

“There’s more than a chance that the boys and girls with guitars will finally get to turn the world on its axis.

“What we do in the next five weeks is seriously, properly, historically, politically important.”

Coldplay, U2, Madonna, Sir Paul McCartney and the Spice Girls are among those who will play at gigs in Washington and London.

Around 100,000 fans are due at the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park with a further 100,000 expected to watch the US one.

The televised event coincides with the G8 Summit of rich nations in Scotland on July 6-8.

Live Aid in 1985, watched by 1.5billion people, raised £60million for Ethiopia’s starving.
