Basement Jaxx end Glastonbury in style
27th June 2005 - 05:00
Michael Eavis’ decision to put Basement Jaxx up the bill to replace Kylie Minogue as Sunday night headliners was seen by many to be a bad move.
Could they possibly offer a show that could be the equivalent of the divine Ms M’s Showgirl spectacular? Glasto veterans and Kylie fans shook their heads and hoped for the best.
And considering the circumstances, The Jaxx delivered the goods.
The first half of the show was all about South London attitude with tracks like Oh My Gosh and Rendezvous sounding like they’d been ripped straight from the bass-heavy streets of Brixton.
The second half began with a ripper of a three part homage to Kylie as Jaxx main men Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Bunton firstly played a pschizo industrial techno re-mix of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, followed by beautiful accapella version that was finally re-mixed into a fantastic blood pumping booty call of the track. Minogue fans were in tears by the end!
The evening ended and Glastonbury was sent off in style by the Jaxx as they played a cracking rendition of Bingo Bango, surrounded by carnival girls in feathers and cartwheeling dancers.
