Stone Roses to reform for Glastonbury?

28th August 2005 - 10:01

New rumours are circulating that The Stone Roses may reform to play at this year’s Glastonbury following an interview with John Squire in which the guitarist suggested the Roses should fill the gap left by Kylie Minogue.

John Squire has sparked rumours of a last minute Roses reformation following an interview with magazine Time Out in which he’s pledged to build bridges with his estranged band mate Ian Brown and suggested the pair reunite for Glastonbury.

Speaking to the magazine, Squire said, “The plan is to make a ferocious guitar record on my own. And then put the Roses back together. Kylie’s pulled out [of Glastonbury], hasn’t she? Maybe we should do it.”

This speculation follows comments from Oasis guv’nor Noel Gallagher that The Stone Roses would be ‘idiots’ not to reform soon.

Speaking to Manchester’s City Life magazine, Gallagher said, “It’s only a matter of time. They’ve got unfinished business… but they’d be idiots if they didn’t. Mani would at the drop of a hat; Ian and John have got issues, but they can be worked out. It’s Reni that’s key.”

Drummer Reni, real name Alan Wren left the group in 1995, while Squire followed in early 1996, before going on to form The Seahorses. Much was made of the recent onstage pairing of Mani and Brown for a version of ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ in March, with Brown himself gearing a high proportion of his solo show towards Roses classics.

The Stone Roses split in October 1996 after a disastrous headline appearance at that year’s Reading Festival.
