‘V’ Good festival

23rd August 2005 - 10:56

The 10th annual V Festival has ended, after more than 130,000 music fans
filled its two sites in Staffordshire and Essex over the weekend.

Oasis closed the festival at Weston Park, Staffs, and the Scissor Sisters at
Hylands Park, Essex.

More than 80 acts – including Franz Ferdinand, The Streets, Kaiser Chiefs,
Maroon 5 and Joss Stone – took part.

Police made 62 arrests at Weston Park site while there were 12 arrests at
Hylands Park.

Staffordshire Police said 30 of the arrests at Weston Park were drug-related,
29 were on suspicion of theft, two were for violence and one person was
detained on suspicion of robbery.

An Essex Police spokesman said that of the 12 people arrested at the
Hylands Park site near Chelmsford, 10 people were detained for drug-related
offences and two for motoring offences.

Saturday’s line-ups at the two venues swapped places for Sunday’s
performances.

Other big names performing included Embrace and Good Charlotte, while the
Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers were headlining the events’ second stages.

Meanwhile, veteran crooner Tony Christie has delighted festival-goers at
both sites, following the success of his single (Is This The Way To) Amarillo
earlier this year.

Oasis performed a selection of their best-known songs including Live Forever
and Don’t Look Back In Anger.

But before the band went on stage Noel Gallagher admitted he did not enjoy
playing open-air festivals.

“We don’t like doing them to be honest. I love going to festivals when
we’re not working, they are a great weekend, but playing at them is different
because you’re working and everyone else is not.”

Tickets for
next years festival are already on sale.  They are available at this

As there will be no Glastonbury in 2006, demand for these will be high.
