20th June 2006 - 05:00
Now out in paperback, “Glastonbury: An Oral History of the Music, Mud & Magic” tells the remarkable story of how the Festival started as a party in a Somerset field in 1970 and went on to become one of the world’s most famous outdoor cultural events.
Told in the words of everyone involved, from Michael and Emily Eavis to punters, fence-jumpers and local villagers, this is a compelling collection of vivid and colourful tales.
There’s also a wealth of contributions from performers including David Bowie, Norman Cook, Fran Healy, Chris Martin, Billy Bragg and John Peel.
