Festival teenager killed in crash near T in the Park site

13th July 2009 - 10:17

Sad news from this weekends T in the Park festival:

A teenager who died after being hit by a lorry just yards from the T In the Park site was named by police on Saturday.

Lachlan Gillies, 17, from Errol, Perthshire, was hit by a heavy goods vehicle just outside the entrance to the Moto services on the A977 near Kinross.

He was struck by the lorry at around 6.30pm on Friday night – just as bands started to take to the stage to open Scotland’s biggest music festival yards away.

The road where Mr Gillies was struck had earlier been busy with motorists and pedestrians heading towards the festival’s entrance.

A trauma team was sent to the scene from Dundee after the accident and the teen was taken to the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, but Lachlan later died.

Crash investigators attended at the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said: “A number of witnesses have been spoken to by Tayside Police officers and the Force would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer.”
